Asha’s first trip in her colourful auto every morning is to the flower market, where she buys
a big bag of jasmine buds. Follow her through the week and through the city, as she picks up
and drops off passengers at the railway station, the beach, the cricket stadium… stringing
and selling jasmine all the way.
Vibrant pictures liven up the route and offer snapshots of a city – Chennai!
Animals reveal their talented tails and show us what tails can do. Guess the animal from the
tail shown, and learn about the animals too.
Have fun finding and counting the bees, and colouring in the animals.
Enjoy counting the creatures and finding the one that is different on each page. Children will have fun reading the clues and guessing which creature is doing something different. The clues are given in English and Tamil. Illustrations cover interesting animals, birds and insects. Being encouraged to look closely at the pictures teaches observation skills and children will learn more about what makes each animal unique.
A delightful story about Tara a vet, who takes care of animals like her own pet. Read on to see what happens...
Diwali, also called the Festival of Lights, is a special celebration in India and other places. During Diwali, people decorate their homes with beautiful lamps called "diyas" and colourful rangolis (patterns). This festival is about celebrating the victory of light over darkness, and good over evil.
Early morning, families clean and decorate their homes, wear new clothes and enjoy delicious sweets. In the evening, they burst fireworks to make the night sky sparkle. Diwali is a time to get together, be happy, share joy, and spend time with family and friends, just like other big celebrations around the world.
In conversation with Aruna Shekar, author of our latest book 'Asha, the Auto-Driver'.
Her new book is about Asha, who takes you on a ride across Chennai in her auto from railway station to beach, cricket stadium and more – with the whiff of fragrant jasmine for company.
